GS Caltex (Board Chair & CEO, GS Caltex / Vice Chairman, GS Group, Saehong Hur) announced that it will supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to the global logistics provider DHL Express, marking a further expansion of its SAF supply activities.

The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a “partnership for carbon reduction based on sustainable aviation fuel” on September 8 at GS Tower in Gangnam, Seoul. Representatives from both companies, including Changsoo Kim, Executive Vice President of Mobility & Marketing at GS Caltex, and John Pearson, CEO of DHL Express, attended the signing ceremony.

Under the agreement, GS Caltex will supply SAF to aircraft operated by DHL Express that refuel in Korea over the next year. The total volume to be supplied to DHL Express is equivalent to 2,000 tons of Neat SAF (100% SAF).

The SAF to be supplied by GS Caltex to DHL Express is produced through a co-processing method and is ISCC EU certified in compliance with the European Union’s Renewable Energy Directive.

In addition, GS Caltex will participate in DHL Express’s GoGreen Plus program. GoGreen Plus is a service that helps reduce carbon emissions generated during transportation through the use of SAF. Going forward, all shipments sent overseas by GS Caltex through DHL Express will use GoGreen Plus and GS Caltex will receive recognition for the resulting carbon reductions.

GS Caltex plans to expand SAF production and supply to airlines as market demand grows. To support the expansion while ensuring stable supply, the company will establish a dedicated co-processing production line. The project will include dedicated pipelines connecting bio-feedstock tanks to refinery processes to enable commercial-scale SAF production. GS Caltex is set to complete the dedicated co-processing production line within the year and expand SAF production.

A GS Caltex spokesperson said, “Through the SAF supply agreement with DHL Express, we have taken another step toward expanding the SAF customers,” adding, “We will continue to expand the SAF business and other areas of our biofuel business in response to market demand.”

Beyond its supply to DHL Express, GS Caltex has continued to produce and supply SAF in response to developments in the global fuel market and government policies.

In 2023, as part of the company’s participation in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s Biofuel Demonstration Research Project, GS Caltex sourced SAF from Neste, a Finnish biofuel producer. In September of the same year, the company began Korea’s first SAF fueling and demonstration flights with Korean Air, successfully completing six flights in total.

Additionally, GS Caltex produced SAF by blending Neat SAF (100% SAF) from Neste with conventional jet fuel and exported it to Narita Airport in Japan through Itochu Corporation in September 2024. This marked the first commercial-scale sale of ISCC CORSIA-certified SAF by a Korean refinery.

Furthermore, since 2024, GS Caltex has supplied Korean airlines with internationally certified SAF produced through co-processing, including ISCC CORSIA-, ISCC EU- and ISCC PLUS-certified SAF. Asiana Airlines, Jin Air and Eastar Jet have received SAF since December 2024, while Korean Air and Aero K Airlines have received it since September and December 2025, respectively.
